There's nothing quite like the scream of rotors, the smell of avgas and wind your face!

This was during flming of the NZ Triathlon Championships held in Gisborne, 1998. Now if you've ever tried to cover an event like this with two subjects at the same time (men's & women's) spread out over a 20km area and staged 20 minutes apart, you will know that it's a mini-marathon (or rather triathlon) of it's own! Never-the-less that's what we did for three years running and got it down to a fine art utilising our 5 camera operators to the max!

So during the swim stage I was at the start line on terra-firma, followed by air to ground coverage, followed by back on land in the transition zone, back in the air during the run, transition again, air for the bike stage and ground for the end. Bear in mind that this happened for both the men's and women's races that some bright-spark decided to race 20 minutes apart! Anyway, it was great workout...

My pilot was Dennis Hartly - a legend amongst helicopter pilots in NZ.
