At the 2001, 17th annual video festival, Nixon Pictures LTD won a Silver Monitor
Award in two categories: Best Documentary & Best Script |
International Television Association NZ (ITVA) Awards |
A half hour episode from the series 'Twin Coast Life', called 'To Hell and Back'
about two reformed ex-cons, took the awards. John and Christine Harvey had between
them spent many years behind bars, John for attempted murder. These days their
mission in life is to try to prevent NZ's youth from making the same mistakes
they made and to destroy any myths there may be about prison life being comfortable.
They spoke openly about their past and their prison experiences. With
the aid of Wellsford's Blue Light Police initiative, a group of youths already
headed down the path of a likey prison sentence accompanied John and Christine
back to Paremoremo Prison. Two serving inmates spoke openly to them about what
exactly goes on behind the walls of the prison and left a lasting impression. John
and Christine then went on to Rodney College to address the students about
the dangers of drugs and the way they almost destroyed their lives. |
